Clean and Maintain Glass Shower Doors the Easy Way
December 2023
Whether you live in a townhome, studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartment, all of our residences at VIDA are available with a variety features and finishes. That includes both tub and tile showers that have beautiful glass doors. Glass doors add a touch of elegance to any bathroom and provide a more open feel to what is one of the smallest rooms in your place. But while they’re a great feature to have, keeping them clean and streak-free can be a challenge.
Soap scum, water spots, and mildew can quickly turn your beautiful shower into a grimy eyesore. With the right techniques and a little bit of know-how, you can keep your glass shower doors sparkling clean for longer. We’ll walk you through the steps to effectively clean your glass shower doors and share some tips to maintain their shine.
Step 1: Gather Your Cleaning Supplies
Before you start, make sure you have the following items:
- A squeegee
- White vinegar
- Baking soda
- A spray bottle
- Microfiber cloths
- A non-abrasive sponge
- Rubber gloves (optional)
Step 2: Prepare Your Cleaning Solution
Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. This solution is effective, eco-friendly, and safe for most surfaces.
Step 3: Apply the Cleaning Solution
Spray the vinegar solution generously on the glass doors, focusing on areas with hard water stains and soap scum. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to break down the buildup.
Step 4: Scrub Gently
Using a non-abrasive sponge or cloth, gently scrub the glass in a circular motion. For tougher stains, make a paste with baking soda and a small amount of water, and apply it directly to the stains before scrubbing.
Step 5: Rinse Thoroughly
After scrubbing, rinse the glass doors with warm water to remove all traces of vinegar and baking soda. Ensure that no cleaning residue is left behind, as this can cause more buildup.
Step 6: Squeegee Time
Use a squeegee to remove excess water from the glass. This helps prevent water spots and streaks.
Step 7: Daily Maintenance & Prevention
If you didn’t enjoy cleaning those class doors, here’s the easy way to keep them clean longer:
- After every shower, use a squeegee after every shower to remove water and prevent buildup. No squeegee? Wipe the doors with a microfiber cloth to absorb moisture and soap residue.
- Keep the bathroom ventilated to reduce humidity and prevent mildew growth.
- Apply a rain repellent product designed for car windshields to create an invisible barrier that repels water and soap scum.
Cleaning glass shower doors doesn’t have to be a hassle. Focusing on daily maintenance with a squeegee or microfiber cloth can reduce the need for those intense cleaning sessions. And with the right tools and techniques, even those aren’t so bad.
